Community Corner

Help a young person get fit! Be a fitness mentor.

Are you passionate about fitness? Do you like to workout, take yoga classes, hike, bike, or run?

The Newton Mentoring Alliance is looking for enthusiastic fitness mentors for middle school and high school students.

Each month The Newton Mentoring Alliance hosts activities or offers passes for mentors and mentees focused on fitness such as hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, yoga, and much more! In addition to events, our program offers matches free personal training sessions, boxing lessons, and access to a local YMCA. The goal of the program is to help teens get more active while having fun!

Mentors are paired in a one-on-one relationship with a young person in grades 6-12 as part of a year-long program. Mentors commit to meeting with their mentee in the community to participate in fitness activities twice per month.

Training and ongoing support is provided. Monthly group activities and free/discounted events are offered for mentors and mentees. No experience necessary, just a sincere desire to help a young person. Mentors do not have to be fitness gurus, but we are looking for role models who can help teens develop healthy habits to lead healthy lives! Because of our suburban location in Newton, mentors must have access to a car.
