Copper House Tavern, a new restaurant, has opened in Waltham. The new eatery is located at 380 Winter St. Along with a wide-ranging menu of pub food that includes burgers and pizza, it also offers wine and more than 40 beers, according to an announcement from the restaurants public relations firm. The restaurant is owned by Greg Coughlin, who currently owns Olde Magoun's Saloon in Somerville.

You may have noticed Mimi's Roast Beef & Seafood appears to have been out of business for a least a week. On several occasions, Waltham Patch has noticed it has not been open during regular business hours. The City of Waltham has placed a tax lien on the building, according to Tax Collector Thomas Magno. Magno, however, said that does not stop the shop from operating. On March 19, the city placed a tax lien on the building for non-payment of property taxes, according to Magno. In total, Mimi's owes $1,529 in 2012 taxes. Of that figure, $1,433 is the actual tax liability. Mimi's also owes $75 in penalties and $35 in interest. It isn't a big loss. It's apparent the owner couldn't care less after not paying a meager tax bill. Talking with the main cook (name withheld) he had a lot of gripes with management; no delivery, no new menu items. All around poor managment. Hopefully something useful goes in there. Last thing Waltham needs is another on par eating establishment. We have enough. And no more Sal's thank god.   more ›

The owner of a Waltham restaurant plans to open a 60-plus seat restaurant in Belmont. Located in the space once occupied by a shoe repair shop at 436 Common St. in Belmont, La Maione Pizzeria Con Cucina will be an Italian eatery focusing on Neapolitan-style pizza and southern Italian "soul food" from chef John Maione who has owned La Campania in Waltham on Main Street for more than a decade. In his proposal to the town, Maione said he was drawn by the proposed Cushing Village residential and retail development which, itself, is reaching a critical junction in its year-long journey seeking Planning Board approval for a building permit to construct the three-building project.
