Living through sweltering heat in a city like Waltham can be difficult and push some residents to complain about their dissatisfaction with their government.
Next time you feel compelled to complain though, remember that Waltham may be one of the best cities in which to live during the summer. In addition to existing spray parks, the city has recently opened two more facilities, the new Fitch school spray park and new state-owned Connors Pool. The best part – all spray parks and the new pool are free!
Residents in other Massachusetts communities don’t have these options and have to travel some distance to find a good place to cool off. other communities have them, but must pay an admission fee. For example, Newton residents can visit the Gath pool or Crystal Lake, but must pay to get in. Charlton (a Central Massachusetts community I used to cover as a newspaper reporter) does not have a readily-accesible swimming area. Residents have to visit it's neighbor, Southbridge, to use the state-owned pool.
When the 100+ degree weather returns, stop and think for second before venting your anger about the city. Pack a snack and go cool off at your free parks and pools!
