Mike Barrett, Democratic candidate for state Senate, has announced that he and his supporters have finished a complete canvass of Democratic voters in the sprawling Senate district -- knocking on the doors of 19,747 individuals and making phone calls to 5,354 households -- in Bedford, Carlisle, Chelmsford, Concord, Lexington, Lincoln, Sudbury, Waltham, and Weston.
"Going door-to-door, I've met many different people: teachers, stay-at-home moms, firefighters, nurses, business people, technology experts, retired veterans, you name it," says Andrew Darnell, a Brandeis University senior and full-time Barrett volunteer.
He adds, "Mike has drawn a legion of young people to his campaign. It's great to see them involved in the political process."
Barrett, a former State Senator who’s spent the past 17 years working in healthcare and computers, has drawn endorsements by Cong. Barney Frank, former area State Senator Carol Amick, State Rep. Jay Kaufman, and former MA Secretary of Environmental Affairs James Hoyte.
When asked how he feels about the upcoming primary, Barrett expresses appreciation. "As I've gone door to door, residents have opened up to me about their concerns for the district," he says, "I'm smarter for it and grateful!"

There is no doubt in my mind that Mike Barrett is the best of many good candidates in the September 6 Democratic Primary for the 3rd Middlesex Senate District . With more legislative experience than any other candidate in fighting for clean and effective government on Beacon Hill, unafraid to take a stand against Senate leadership, he is the most energetic and enthusiastic candidate I have ever met. In the last 20 years, Mike also has the most experience in the private sector, running health organizations and businesses and helping to positively shape the Massachusetts economy and earn the resources to educate his children. He is a man of intelligence, creativity, and integrity, I urge all Concord Patch readers voting on September 6 in the Democratic Senate Primary to chose Mike Barrett.

Given the State's complete domination by Democrats, and the Boston Globe's endorsement, we can acknowledge that Mike is the best grapefruit on the dump.
