Young Girl Struck By Vehicle During Waltham Rush Hour
Girl transported to hospital with serious injuries.
An 11-year-old girl suffered injuries at 8 a.m. this morning after being struck by a vehicle outside 1083 Main St.
The girl was taken to the hospital by ambulance, according to Waltham Fire Lt. Michael Murphy. Police Lt. Tim King described the victim's injuries as "major," as did scanner reports.
Police have blocked off a chunk of Main Street surrounding the scene where authorities are reconstructing the accident. Motorists should expect delays.
Police plan to issue a press release with further details later.
First responders had requested a MedFLight helicopter to transport the victim to the hospital, but that was cancelled after it was deteremind an ambulance would be faster, Murphy said.
