Will Waltham Public Schools Be Cancelled on Tuesday?

Stay tuned to Waltham Patch for updates on whether Waltham Public Schools will close on Tuesday, March 19.

With several inches of snow forecasted for Waltham for Tuesday, you are likely wondering whether Waltham will cancel public schools.

Here is how the decision will be made, which we have based on prior Waltham Patch reporting.

Waltham Public Schools Superintendent Susan Nicholson makes the final decision based upon consultation with Waltham Police Officer Ann Frassica, the district's safety officer, Consolidated Public Works Director Michael Chiasson and Mayor Jeannette McCarthy. The decision must be made by 5 a.m. to accomodate staff that live outside of Waltham.

City officials focus on the condition of the sidewalks in their decision making process because many students in Waltham walk to school or to a bus stop.

After the decision is made, city officials typically make the announcement through social media channels, reverse 911 calls, TV news outlets and the district's website.

Stay tuned tomorrow morning to see whether schools will be closed. To receive updates, sign up for breaking news alerts and our daily newsletter.
