Who Should Run For Waltham Mayor?

Mayor Jeannette McCarthy does not plan to seek re-election.

With Waltham Mayor Jeannette McCarthy announcing she will not seek re-election in the 2015 mayoral race, the city is guaranteed a fresh face in City Hall's corner office.

Already, City Councillor Thomas Stanley has said he is considering a run, but nobody else has publicly announced their plans to run.

Who do you want to see become the next mayor of Waltham? Leave your thoughts in the comment box below.

I'd like to hear who Mayor McCarthy would endorse.

I think Councillor Tom Stanley would be a great choice for Mayor !! He is highly educated, has experience in local and state government and his commitment to Waltham is second to none! He would definitely have my family's vote !

I also think Tom Stanley should be the next mayor. He has experience on the city council and has worked hard for our city as a state rep. He is an active member of our community and knows the city inside and out. He’ll have my vote in 2015.

The next mayoral race will not be until November 2015. A lot can happen between now and then. It seems a little early to be picking favorites at this point.

Maybe Skellig can host a plate-spinning contest to narrow down the field.

I think the Mayor should change her mind and run again - she is still the best choice

If you like a dictator. She has cost the city millions with the grants she refuses to accept and use. Get her out fast!

Hi Fred,

Can you cite some examples of what funds she has declined?

Lets see.. She fails to fund the capital improve budget every year citing economic reasons yet bond and interest rates re low.. Now woul be the time to fund it.
An independent audit conducted found a stash on 23 million dollars she was hiding to by the Fernald.
Police lost 8 or 10 cruisers last year because she didn't want the grant and the city lost it and the cars
Emergency management lost grants because the mayor couldn't get what she wanted so she turned them down. Also 86 out of 87 towns joined a consortium for equipment. Only town that didn't sign up was Waltham because the mayor didn't like how the contract was written yet 86 other towns had no issues? No the city looses a grant every year because they don't belong to the consortium.
You've wasted money on grants for buildings like the hardy and banks school which will never pay back.
Even if you have money in your budget, she refuses to sign purchase orders. She has over 100 not signed... Some are very old.
Do some hard nose reporting and research and ask around, that is if department heads will talk with you for fear of retaliation.

Fred - I think you are taking the "jello" - if someone is feeding you this information than shame on you and them! The Mayor has done so much for this city and if she had not she would not have been elected 3 times by a wide majority. I guess you think most of the citizens of this city are uninformed and "dumb". Not so friend you are on the wrong side of the facts.

I wonder why no one ran against her - maybe because they felt they could not win!
If your facts are as poor as your spelling then I guess there is nothing left to say - you have your feelings and I have mine.

@Fred,

The Mayor had an opponent during his last election. I cannot recall his name at the moment, but she did have one.

The kid that ran against her was a 21 year old student - been in town for 6 months - wanted to run for President but decided to run for Mayor first. Over and Out!

Paul Brasco would be the WORST choice for Mayor. He's already proven that he's corrupt by using the police force as his own rent enforcers. Maybe he can get Chief LaCroix to do his counters? And his little faux heart attack episode last year to take the heat off his illegal activities. Keep believing the crap these elected officials throw at you.
