UPDATED: Whittemore Elementary School Principal Leaving Waltham Schools
Deborah Butts's resignation takes affect on June 30.
UPDATED, with information for the Whittemore website: The following note now appears on the school's website saying a copy of it was sent to parents on May 18.
"Dear Whittemore Community (Family, staff, students and friends);
After months of contemplation and thoughtful deliberation, I am resigning as the Principal of the Henry Whittemore Elementary School effective June 30, 2012. I have thoroughly enjoyed the four years I have spent in the Waltham Public Schools. However, I believe this is a time Whittemore School will benefit from a change in leadership. I will sorely miss the students, family and staff upon my departure. I have been fiercely loyal to the school community and completely committed to the position as Principal of the school. Until June 30th, I will continue to make decisions and plan for the upcoming school year with the students’ best interests at the center of every decision.
With appreciation of four outstanding years,
Deborah E. Butts"
Henry E. Whittemore Elementary School Principal Deborah Butts has resigned effective June 30.
The Waltham School Committee formally accepted her resignation letter during its regular meeting at Waltham High School last night.
In her resignation letter, Butts said, “I believe this is a time Whittemore School will benefit from a change in leadership.”
Butts, who spent four years in the district, is the second principal to announce her departure n the pas several weeks. Douglas MacArthur Principal Anthony Colannino recently announced he was leaving for the Wellesley Public Schools District.
The process to replace both principals has already started. Waltham Public Schools Superintendent Susan Nicholson said she has already held several focus groups with staff and parents at both schools to gather input on what qualities they want to see in the next principals. The deadline to apply for both positions is Friday, June 8.
