Walmart, never going to happen. It's a prime spot for such a down market company.

Hasn't anyone else gotten tired of these pointless guessing games about what retailers should be in Waltham's empty & developing properties? Is there anything less important that this? Maybe we should be guessing which is the next retailer to close up shop in Waltham - at least that is tangentially related to what's going on in the world these days.

Don's got a good point. How about we suggest places we don't want at the site?
Like another bank or another chain restaurant or Walmart.

Market Basket, a gift shop (Paper Source type of thing?), a coffee shop, some clothing stores for adults and maybe one for kids like a Carter's.

I don't understand why do many people want these chain stores in Waltham. There is an opportunity to really make this place a destination. We need stores like anthropology, Starbucks, some nice classy restaurants, a brooks brothers would be nice instead of a Jos A bank which is everywhere. An apple store would drive a lot of traffic, I am considering opening a fine jewelry store with my family so that is one local tenant. How about a pinkberry and a nice boutique store line french lessons or even something like a kate spade, or Ann Taylor, Chico's or hey what about a nordstrom rack! Just something thats not going to be the same as everyone else...

Daniel - you seem to say chain stores is a bad idea and then name nine chain stores you would like there. Does this city actually need more restaurants? This site would be perfect for a supermarket and a few stores aimed at serving the nearby neighborhoods. The rest of the site should be converted to a wind farm. If we don't start thinking about energy supply and climate change as we overdevelop everything, we won't have to be worrying about retail stores too much longer.

Don-Your right about those stores that I mentioned they are also chains but they are a lot nicer then what else would come in. Im just thinking of a bigger picture, here... there are two developments going on main st in waltham. This one is off the highway so why dont we put in stores to attract more shoppers, where as the other one is further down main st where the Ford dealer was, you could put some more value brand stores there, I think that makes sense.
- As far as wind energy is concerned you need a whole bunch of those to really generate enough energy to power anything and NStar who is right next to that development will try to block that as much as possible. If your looking for cheaper energy you should check out Veridian.

Whole Foods
Trader Joe's

I agree with Daniel that the site could generate a lot of revenue for Waltham, so why not make it nice? I am sad to see my favorite local park, Prospect Hill, get sliced, though. Hopefully, the developer will do a good job at masking the development site from those who walk the beautiful trails.

I'd really like to hear more about what some of my other fellow waltham residents would like to see here, we can really make this a great place with some unique and upscale stores. Save the Christmas tree shop and Market basket for the Ford dealer area. I'd much prefer a whole foods and a starbucks rather then a Market Basket and a Dunks... like we don't already have enough dunkin donuts in Waltham...

For folks on a fixed income who can only afford to buy a coffee from Starbucks as an occasional treat, I'd love to see a MARKET BASKET. If you have not shopped at one of the newer Market Basket stores, you are missing a very eclectic concession that includes coffee, sushi, etc. and they do it to fit the current economy.

Remember folks, COMPETITION between the local grocery stores lowers your cost! A smart consumer will not go for the fancy name, but for quality and price.

Market Basket is a great store but I don't think it fits the style of this plaza at the Polaroid site. Market Basket would be much better off opening down towards the 117, rt 20 split. Its close enough to Brandeis where students could walk back and forth to it.

Doesnt matter if it fits the style of the plaza or not. Without Market Basket's funding and them managing the retail portion of the plaza, this would never be developed.

Its exactly the type of property that Market Basket does well with. Directly off major highway. They pay little to no rent to the owner/developer. On the border of 2 towns to draw customers from both towns. And a huge store. There isnt anywhere else in town where they would get as much space for as little money as they are.
