What Should Go In This Empty Waltham Storefront?

Check out newest edition of Visions For Vacancies!

Welcome back to our second edition of Visions for Vacancies.

This week we are at 565-567 Moody St, which currently underwent renovations.

Previously, Compustar occupied the space, but moved next door as part of the renovations, according to local realtor Kenneth Brown, whose family trust owns the building.

Brown is currently searching for a new tenant for the 1,500 square foot space, and said he has fielded several calls to locate massage parlors there, something he said he won't allow. He has previously said he also won't allow nail salons, hair salons, barbershops and a conveience store.

The site is currenlty surrounded by restaurants and other stores and street parking is available.

What do you think should move into the location? Tell us in the comment section below.

Ryan,

Did Mr. Brown give any indications of the type of tenant he would prefer?

Not directly, but he has expressed willingness to have a bakery in there.

Why is he not allowing nail salons, hair dressers or a massage parlors? I would think in this day he should take what he can get!

He has not said why he does not want those types of tenants. But, as the owner, it is obviously his choice.

Massage parlors give off a bad vibe, there are enough hairdressers around, and if I see one moe nail salon, I'll scrape my nails down a black board!!

What about the old fashioned 'Brighams', or set up like an old fashioned soda shoppe, with booths, counters and stools...red and white checkered tablecloths and a juke box. A fun place to go after school. We just don't have that for our kids anymore. Kind of like a Johnny Rockets in the mall. Offer jobs to the kids that are in artistic courses, they entertain as they prepare burgers, fries, 'ice cream sodas and root beer floats'.. bring back the 'ole Waltham feeling'... post pics in the windows , black and white photos people can lend or donate... offer, 'jimmies, ice sundaes with hot fudge sauce'... a nice place for the kids and adults. Resonable pricing, good food, A GOOD MANAGER.. A taste of Waltham that has been missing... A nice elementary school trip to the 'New Taste of Waltham'..upbeat music, and if you've been to Johnny Rocketts, the cooks also sing on request, or just when in the right mood. Adults and children love this. When will kids be kids again and when will the old 'Walthamites' be able to enjoy their past?? Nothing like red and white checkered table cloths in a window with nostalgic pics... it definitely would catch my eye. Heck, I live down the cape... I'd definitely travel back to my home town for some great juke box choices and a good basket of fries, onion rings and a great burger!!!

Hi Jane,
I love this idea, but I must admit, I am biased. My favorite food is ice cream, so I am always looking for more ice cream places. Also, I think more safe places for kids to hang out is great.

I love the idea of giving the patrons of Waltham give their opinions!

How about a clothing re-sale store, maybe even focused on children's clothing?

I'm with you Ryan. My wife and I have been saying that we need an ice cream shop in walking distance on Warrendale, something like the old Dean Dairy. Would love for my kids to have access to something like that.

Its so hard in this economy for ANY type of store to be open and that is so unfair. Years ago, anything new would be enjoyed and would survive. I hope more people come up with ideas. Waltham is a great place to live and needs ideas!!! Come on Walthamites... lets get some ideas going!!!!!

For the most part all of these are good idea's. I put forth this one simple question...Does anyone know somebody who want to open a bagel shop, Ice cream parlor or bakery shop. The space it there.
