What's Going On At Lexington/Trapelo Intersection?
Find out what kind of building is being built at the site.
You may have seen it recently -- the steel building girders being erected at the corner of Lexington Street and Trapelo Road and wondered what is being built there.
Well, only half of an answer is available yet. According to Waltham's Acting Building Inspector Patrick Powell, developer and site owner Daniel Yu is constructing a building to eventually house retail and office tenants. However, Powell said no tenants have applied for the site yet.
City Councilor Robert Logan tweeted that it would be the same building Yu had planned for when it was slated to house a Starbucks, bank and an Asian restaurant. Those plans were eventually cancelled.

An Asian restaurant would be nice. North Waltham does not need another bank or coffee shop.

How about stop building new buildings & fill all the empty offices/retail stores. Doesn't look to me that the economy is getting better..

Another Bank? How comes they can get permits to operate and no questions about parking?....yet let a new restaurant try to apply, all the old farts start to complain, NOT in my backyard! Waltham, ur losing it!

I know the drive through got axed by the city council, but any news on weather Starbucks would be interested in taking the space without a drive through?

I loved Lanai Island, we need a good resturant with a lounge and dance floor like the Cottage Crest, I miss the both places very much. A nice resturant along Pleasant St Watertown/Waltham line would be a good location, lost osf empty buildings there.

I would love for Starbucks to work out. It would also be great to have another restaurant of any kind to grab a drink and a quick bite while catching the game.

No more banks! They are future abandoned buildings. Please put a freeze on construction for banks. There are already way too many.

Forget $tarbucks, how about a REAL coffee shop with local musicians- a nice place to stop and be entertained. A GOOD sushi bar would be really nice too (no super market sushi).

People with lots of ideas, but no one is willing to step up with any money to start these businesses. Its great to have ideas of what we want, but until someone comes along with the capital to start one of these places, its all a pipe dream.

I spoke to the leasing agent for this spot. The rents are pretty darn high even for Waltham... almost 70$ a sq/ft... those are numbers only a bank or a national chain can afford... I dont see any small business going in there.

Hmm, thanks for The Patch for this timely news update but for sure there must be a lot more more to this story! So much money being poured into that corner without any signed-up lease holders, really?
