Lexington's Jack Fucci Named Head of Waltham YMCA
Fucci will be the executive director of the Waltham branch of the YMCA of Greater Boston after leading the Oak Square facility.
The following announcement was sent out by the YMCA of Greater Boston:
The YMCA of Greater Boston is pleased to announce the appointment of Jack Fucci as the new Executive Director of the Waltham YMCA. Fucci, a Watertown native and Lexington resident, has led the Oak Square YMCA in Brighton, also a part of the YMCA of Greater Boston, for the past ten years.
While at the Oak Square Y, Fucci led a team of committed volunteers and staff that resulted in a YMCA that is the center of community life in the Brighton area. More people attend the Oak Square YMCA daily than any other Y locally due to its ability to change lives through a culture of inclusion and accessibility that can be a model for kindred organizations.
The Waltham YMCA, along with all YMCA of Greater Boston facilities, has recently lowered membership rates to ensure everyone, regardless of income, has access to the YMCA. “As a charitable non-profit, the YMCA is committed to helping individuals and families improve their health, and by delivering high quality programs in state of the art facilities at prices everyone can afford, we are fulfilling our mission,” said Fucci.
An example of the novel programming delivered at the Waltham YMCA is the upcoming partnership with the Joslin Diabetes Center and Cybex International Exercise Equipment. The program goal is to deliver proven, research-based diabetes management strategies at the Waltham YMCA developed at the Joslin over the past several years. Bringing the programming to the YMCA and closer to where people live and work will help improve their adherence to positive lifestyle activities. The program will include exercise, coaching, education and behavior modification.
Fucci brings over two decades of community building, fundraising, partnership development and programming expertise to the Waltham Y. With the goal of leveraging new and existing community partnerships and acquiring the resources necessary to sustain affordability, he plans to continue to grow the Waltham YMCA to serve more people, especially those in need.
“The YMCA is for Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility. We align very well with the philanthropic goals of individuals, families and cause driven businesses and organizations. I am excited to share the stories of the Y and how we can work together to strengthen and sustain the Waltham YMCA so it continues to serve our community and those in need for decades to come,” said Fucci.
Prior to joining the YMCA of Greater Boston, Fucci was a director for a technology based company that provides exercise and rehabilitation tracking and staff management tools to YMCA’s, universities, the military and hospital based fitness centers. In that role Fucci worked with hospitals and hundreds of YMCA’s across the country, including the YMCA’s of Greater Boston, helping them improve health outcomes, customer service and integration with the healthcare community. Early in his career, he was an exercise physiologist and then the General Manager of Operations for Fitcorp, Inc., a leading provider of health promotion and fitness services to individuals and corporations throughout New England.
“On behalf of the Waltham YMCA Board, we welcome Jack’s proven leadership and are looking forward to him continuing the legacy of building strong families throughout our community,” said Waltham YMCA Board of Directors Chair Laura Goldin. “Our goal as community leaders will continue to be providing accessibility and affordability to all.”
The Waltham YMCA serves over 7,000 members annually and operates an on-site infant, toddler and pre-school program, four off-site after school programs, childcare areas, summer day camps, and special programs for youth including sports camps and activities in the arts and humanities. Activity areas include an expanded aquatics department with lap pool, full size gymnasium, outdoor ball field, outdoor pools and state of the art fitness center.
