Waltham Woman's Spirit Lives On in Memorial Bench [VIDEO]
Janet Read Kennedy's spirit lives on at new bench in Waltham.
The spirit of Janet Read Kennedy will forever live at her favorite place thanks to a newly dedicated bench in her honor.
Friendly and family of Kennedy, a former Waltham resident who died on April 16, 2010 after battling Alzheimers' disease, gathered yesterday to dedicate the new bench located at the Woerd Avenue boat launch. Check out the video of the dedication in the photo box to the right.
Kennedy was always especially fond of the Woerd Avenue section of the Charles River. She frequently visited it to feed birds, pick up trash and enjoy the beauty of the river. Now, Kennedy is buried in Mt. Feake Cemetary, which sits directly acorss the river from the bench.
In a few heartfelt words, Bill, Kennedy's husband, recalled how he used to visit the area with his wife and the comfort it has given him since she passed away.
"Janet throroughly loved it to see the two swans would chase away the Canada geese because the Canada geese would try to habor the food away from the wildlife ducks. It was sort of like a food chain situation going on ... it was beter than television," Kennedy said.
After his remarks, Kennedy and Mayor Jeanette McCarthy unveiled the bench for the public to enjoy.
