Waltham Students Create Practical Machines

Northeast Elementary School students displayed their simple machines on Friday, March 30.

They are not yet professional inventors, but if their simple machine projects are any indication, some Waltham third grade students certainly have good careers ahead of them.

On Friday, March 30, several classes of students at the Northeast Elementary School displayed the simple machines they created over the past two weeks as part of an independent project.

The projects demonstrated the pulleys, vertical plaes and other simple machines' real world applications, according to Ann McNamara, one of the three teachers that hosted one of the display sessions for students and parents.

"I think they realize it is a tool [that helps people do certain tasks]," McNamara said.

The students made everything from a machine the draped blankets on people after getting into bed from another machine that lifts water from the ground to a treehouse.
