Waltham Starbucks Development Officially Dead
Developers can refile the project at a future date.
The site sits at the corner of Trapelo Road and Lexington Street.

The proposed development that would have housed a Starbucks location, bank and Asian restaurant at 1019 Trapelo Rd. is officially dead.
The Waltham City Council, at its Monday, Aug. 6 meeting, officially accepted a withdrawal notice from developer Daniel Yu, to cancel his plans for the site.
Yu notified the council of his plans recently, before the council officially accepted the withdrawal.
No reason was given for the withdrawal, but Yu is allowed to refile his proposal at a later date.

...until someone gets sensible about our parking requirements. This project was 9 spaces short of the 56 needed to meet the code. And it had a drive-thru. These two things allowed the council to kill this one. RIght next door is a bank with a drive thru and 4 shops and 4 offices with about 25 parking spaces. The owners of the Chinese Restaurant on Waverly Oaks fought hard to kill the competition, too.

Echoes of Boston's Downtown Crossing debacle... Mayor Jeanette please reassure us that this is not going to remain a hole in the ground eyesore for the next 4 years. My question is "how was it that demolition was allowed to begin when plans for construction were so up in the air"?

The empty lot is an eyesore? The whole city (especially the South Side) is an eyesore! This city needs more coffee shops and restaurants like it needs more illegal aliens. The entire city leadership (mayor and council) should be flushed and replaced!

Following up on Don's comment - if they can do it in LA, surely we can do it in Waltham! ' "We need to be a business-friendly city ... [and] stop the bleeding that occurs every time a business cannot open its shop because it needs one or two" parking spaces, said Councilman Ed Reyes.'
