Waltham's spray parks will open Wednesday, June 20, just in time to help residents cool off from the high temperatures, according to Waltham Recreation Department Director Sandra Tomasello.
Each park, except for the Fitch Spray park and Lazazzero Playground, will operate from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m., Monday-Friday. On Saturdays and Sunday, the hours are 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. Attendants will be on duty at the parks from 12 p.m. - 7 on weekdays and 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. on weekends. (See below for park locations)
Tomasello said the high temperatures predicted for Wednesday prompted the city to open the parks early. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Waltham, which goes into effect from noon to 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
With temperatures expected to reach the lower 90s and dew points in the 60s, forecasters are calling for heat indices to hit the century mark, going as high as 103 degrees.
A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create the possibility of heat illnesses.
Long durations outside are discouraged during this period. People who are outside are encouraged to stay hydrated.
FUTURE PARK OPENINGS
The Lazazzero and Fitch parks are currently closed because of ongoing construction nearby, according to Tomasello. The city hopes to open them on Monday, June 25.
Also, the ciyt plans to hold a ribbon cutting for the Fitch park, which is new, at a later date, according Tomasello.
