Waltham Schools Want 2 New Teachers To Ease Overcrowding
The teachers would work at the Stanley and Whittemore elementary schools.
The Waltham Public Schools District is leaning toward hiring two additional teachers to ease overcrowding at two elementary schools.
The teachers would be hired for the first grade classes at the Willaim F. Stanley Elementary School and Henry J. Whittemore Elementary School, according to Waltham Public Schools Superintendent Susan Nicholson. She also said that the district is "at the tipping point at three other grades at other schools in the districts." Nicholson did not specify which schools.
Asked for the specific enrollment numbers for first graders, Nicholson said she did not have them available.
The move is another chapter in the district ongoing overcrowding issues. Administrators have previously said some of the districts schools are full and that redistricting is needed to address the problem.
