I was embarassed to be a resident of Waltham yesterday. Driving through Watertown and Newton was a pleasure. This happens every year. I don't understand why they don't have enough trucks to manage, and rely on sub-contracting the job out.

I agree with lauredw. It is disgraceful for the city the size of Waltham to have its roads like a country town. What is the problem? Lack of resources set aside due to our recent warm winters? Poor planning? What's going to happen after we get rain and the roads freeze?

What is the point of closing schools today if they are not going to be out continuing to plow the roads? One day of rain and thawing is not going to bring my road down to pavement, it's just going to turn it into a skating rink by tomorrow morning.

Absolutely pathetic. It is obvious that somebody decided it was not worth extra money to clear the snow on sat and especially Sunday. Why not save some money and do it on Monday with more cars on the road, says the person who should loose their job! My street is so compacted, after the rain, ill be surprised if it isn't a smooth sheet of ice. Moody street is a hot mess, Main Street is the only clear road, and by clear, I mean one lane, and a B- at best.

I have never seen such a terrible plowing job in a city! Should we have to risk our lives trying to navigate through the city! Please sand the streets! Deplorable and unsafe!

I wonder why the man in charge of snow removal and the mayor couldn't be reached for comment. That's inexcusable

Last winter, we had almost no snow. One would think that there would be unused funds left over from last year's snow removal budget and that those funds could be applied to correcting the deplorable condition of the roads now.

How convenient that the mayor and CPW "director" were unavailable for comment!

I live off of Moody, and am really upset by the state of the roads. It's impossible to get around, cars are getting stuck, the street isn't wide enough for emergency vehicles to fit through without going very, very slowly. Also, walkways aren't fully shoveled, forcing pedestrians to walk on main roads. The city should be ticketing home and business owners who are not clearing their walkways!

When are town hall meetings so that the public can directly ask the mayor and CPW director why the plowing wasn't already mostly done during the driving ban? We need to let them know that there's no excuse for this situation!

You could eat off the main streets (and most of the side roads) in Newton and Watertown, while Waltham's streets are a mess. One reason being that Newton and Watertown enforce their winter parking bans. If cars are parked back on the roads before they are cleared, the plows can't do the job. Put a temporary parking ban in place, and don't allow street parking until the roads are clear! You can't even shovel out the storm drains now (with rain on the way) with vehicles in the way.

Thanks Ryan. Perhaps we could take all these comments and bring them to City Hall tonight at 8 pm? Well, that is, if we don't get stuck in the snow driving there!

Was absolutely disgusted to drive (never mind walk) through the deplorable and dangerous condition of Russell Street near Hannaford's on Sunday afternoon.

Not only did they clear my street (Grove Street) I took my time to clear out my drive way on Saturday and Sunday! And open my walkway from my front door too the sidewalk and on too the street, as well as for my next door neighbors. But at 9 pm last night the (CPW) desided to do a last round of plowing which it way okay to begin with and they PUSH all the snow back into my driveway as well as my walkway! WHAT! did I do a good of a job then the CPW? Gee whiz!! no respect for TAX PAYER!

Nothing will get done if you don't complain. Call the cpw 781-314-3855 or the mayors office 781-314-3100 or your city councilor and the councilors at large. If you don't it won't get done. They need to hear from you. Remember they work for you. You pay them to do their job

I was just driving in Waltham and I didn't see a single truck City truck. Where are they? The roads will be frozen by evening. Better keep your insurance agent's phone number handy for easy processing of your auto accident claims!

No doubt there's an unusually lot of snow this round. Need the City to do what they did 2 years ago and take down the snow at intersections so one can see. Put it at snow farm. From Caldwell, Eddy, etc. can't see onto Weston St. to turn. Crazy.

Driving to work from Waltham to Watertown today was embarrasing. Crossing the town line into Watertown it looked as if they had an exra week or 3x as many people working to clear the snow. What the heck!?! My street was not plowed all throughout the storm - they came late Saturday night to dig us out but now my street looks better than Moody or Bacon or Plympton.

It is so discouraging to try to run a business in our town. My clients need to park in the Crescent ST lot which is practically impassable and the sidewalks are rarely cleaned. The cars need to be removed after the storms so the plows can do their job.

Are we serious, I just saw two city workers in a parking lot talking in their plow trucks!!!!. When Cherry st is a discrace its over 48 hours after the snow has stopped. I think the mayor has no procedures set on how to deal w contractors and milking the taxpayers. I'll try to send a picture!

I live on Brown street and as of this morning it was still snow covered. There is no excuses as to why the streets in Waltham look they way they do when Lexington is down tot he pavement. We have not had to use hardly any resources this year for snow and there was a 24 hour driving band. Positively disgusting that the streets still look like they do. This is nothing new to us.. we get snow every year ! I would also love to thank the plow drivers for plowing the snow AGAINST the cars at whittemore school instead of the otherside. It took about three hours to get to my car the other night.

Here is a thought ... after traveling past Shaws and another new bank location, dark & shuttered, slogging down one (1) lane with plenty of snow underneath ..took a right into Lexington and found dry, DRY backtop and onto Arlington where restaurants were full, parking lots were overflowing with customers coming and going. After three (3) days of forced non action over a weekend, people were out and about on Sunday evening but in Arlington restaurants! How did the Restaurant Row on Waltham's Moody Street due on Sunday evening or the Landmark Theater?
Waltham could have all that economic additive if people can travel out and about in a timely manner when they want to.

The mayor and Dpw should be embarrassed what a horrible job but thats what you get when you hire subcontractors who don't give a #!*&"\ and are to busy making calls while plowing. When will we finally be fed up with this incompetent mayor!

My kids bus stop has not even been cleaned the sidewalk is covered in snow!! Where are they supposed to stand in the middle of the street. Waltham should be ashamed.

I turned on the Waltham channel (Ch. 8) at 9:30 p.m. on Monday, thinking that the city council meeting would still be running. Instead, there was a repeat of the January 24 meeting regarding the Polaroid site, followed by a re-run of the Grover Cronin's demolition. I could not attend the council meeting in person because I am disabled with MS and use a walker. That might have been a risky challenge, given the condition of the sidewalks and parking lots!

Please provide an update on tonight's council meeting, if it occurred.

We had to be in Waltham last Sunday, what a mess. Prior to being in Waltham we were in Westford, Hudson,Marlboro, Sudbury and had no issues. As soon as we hit the Waltham line the world changed. Even Moody street was awful. Shame on somebody in Waltham owes the residents a huge apology and details on what will be done to eliminate similar issues in the future, it was a failure beyond comparison
