Waltham Police Investigating Pedestrian Crash
The victim was taken to Newton-Wellesley Hospital.
The victim of the Jan. 30 pedestrian accident was a 65-year-old Waltham resident, according to Waltham Police Sgt. William Gallant.
The victim was transported by ambulance to Newton-Wellesley Hospital after she was struck by a 2001 Toyota Avalon at the intersection of Lexington Street and the Waltham High School access road, according to Gallant. There is no word on the extent of her injuries, Gallant said, but she was breathing and conscious when first responders arrived at the scene.
The woman was out for a morning walk when the car struck her at around 6:45 a.m.
The accident remains under investigation, Gallant said.

There really isn't a so-called "intersection" there. Was she paying attention? Cars go in and out to the highschool all the time but you can see them.

I'm with Ryan here, it's an intersection but it's not clearly marked with signage and a proper sidewalk in all directions. CP it's a terrible situation all around a driver struck a person with their vehicle, a pedestrian is injured, not need to question someone's actions.

@CP, Can you explain what you mean? According to Dictionary.com, an intersection is "a place where two or more roads meet, especially when at least one is a major highway; junction."

I am not surprised...try driving in and out of the high school parking lot before and after school. It is like taking your life in your hands. There are not right or wrong ways to drive up there and everyone is crisscrossing in front of each other. The student's all speed. I actually saw one student side swipe a bus and kept on going. Something serious is going to happen someday up there.

Really? WPD does not have authority to alter an intersection. They can request changes, but I think the authority to change an intersection falls under the Traffic Commission.

Ryan, my point is that, speeding, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident are illegal in any venue. If the above depictions of driving behavior are even close to being accurate the WPD should take notice and address the situation.
Are you suggesting that poor roadway design is a valid defense for operating a vehicle in a negligent manner?

Could you clarify if the victim was struck either at the intersection of Lexington Street and the entrance to both the Kennedy & High Schools or was it at the other end of the HS parking lot and the access road that is gated off during school off-hours?
