Waltham Farmers Market Kicks Off Soon; Food Truck Coming

A food truck will be visting the Waltham Farmers market.

The Waltham Farmers Market kicks off its 22nd season on Saturday, June 16.

Held in the parking lot of the Sovereign Bank across from City Hall, more than 30 vendors will be participating this season, according to a press release. The market will run each Saturday until Nov. 10. It opens at 9:30 a.m. each Saturday and closes at 2:30 p.m.

Produce, cheese, eggs, fruits and vegetables will be among the many choices available, according to the release.

A returning feature this year -- a food truck from Silk Road will visit throughout the season and be selling grilled meats among other items, according to farmer's market spokesman Jennifer Rose. Also, two new wine vendors will be participating, according to Rose.

Some market vendors accept EBT/SNAP cards as well as WIC coupons. Also, senior citizens, at some vendors, will receive a 10 percent discount. Credit and debit cards are also accepted.

This is not a typical farmer’s market. This season eight free concerts will accompany the market with each starting at 11 a.m. The concerts run from June 23 to Sept. 15.

The market was founded in 1991 by Waltham residents to provide health and inexpensive food to local residents and to improve the downtown area, according to the release.

"It's an enduring community resource," Rose said.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Upon receipt of additional information, this story has been corrected to say the Silk Road truck is returning this year.

Thanks for the write-up! Only correction is that Silk Road BBQ was at the market last year - we're psyched that they will be back!

Can't wait for the market!!!! It's a favorite spot for meeting librarians! Now if only there was a Christmas Tree Shop in Waltham, I'd be in heaven.
