Mayor Jeanette McCarthy and Newton Mayor Setti Warren have something to lose — money spent on a bet.
McCarthy and Warren have wagered a meal on the outcome of tonight's football game where Waltham High School will play Newton North High School for the first time in 20 years, according to a press release from Warren's office. The game starts at 7 p.m. at Waltham High School.
McCarthy has bet a lunch or at The Chateau in Waltham, while Warren wagered the same at Johnny's Luncheonette in Newton Centre.
“Earlier [yesterday] Mayor McCarthy and I had a spirited discussion, exchanged a few gifts and placed a friendly wager on the game. As a Newton North graduate, I am confident that the Tigers will pull out a win, and I look forward to my dinner at The Chateau," Warren said.

That was always "The Game" when I was in elementary and junior high school. Traveled to Newton many times with my Father to see the away games. Can remember one year at the Athletic Field when Newton supporters set off orange smoke bombs in the tree by Bacon Street during the game. Both schools had some really good football teams during that period.
