Some Waltham Schools Releasing Students Early Today
The snowstorm is forcing some Waltham schools to release students early.
With snow continuing to fall on the city, some Waltham Public Schools will release students early today, according to the Superintendent's Office.
Waltham High School will release students at 1:15 p.m. and all of the middle school students will be dismissed at 2 p.m.
Those early dismissals are intended to get school buses to the elementary schools for their regular 3 p.m. pickup time, according to the superintendent's office. The elementary schools will not be releasing students early.

Now that's absolutely stupid and scary. The conditions will be much better later. What's a parent who went to work to do? It's not as if they can fly home on such short notice.
I'm beginning to wonder what's happened to the analytic thinking skills of the higher ups in this town.

It's middle school and high school only.

I was referring to middle school. Many of those children are under 12.

11-year-olds are old enough to be home alone. When I was in 6th grade, my parents trusted me to let myself in and not get into trouble. I actually enjoyed being in charge of my house for a few quiet hours!

Only one person calls the shots as far as the schools are concerned and that's the School Superintendent.

David is absolutely correct. Dr. Nicholson consults with the CPW Director and the mayor. But, the final decision is Nicholson's.

I don't understand why Waltham even had school today. Given the amount of snow, it would have been safer for everyone to remain home.
