Should Waltham Hire More Snow Workers/Equipment?

Some Waltham Patch readers have called for the city to hire additional municipal workers and equipment to clear now, but do you agree?
The question has emerged in the wake of City Councillors recently criticizing Mayor Jeannette McCarthy for not having enough equipment and workers to handle the February blizzard. She plans to revamp the plowing system.
Consolidated Public Works Director Michael Chiasson ahs said told McCarthy he does not has enough equipment and that additional equipment is slated for future purchase. However, future purchases have not yet been funded.
What do you think? Should the city hire more workers and purchase more snow-clearing equipment? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.

This just in.... The Waltham Snow Plow Horse has died.... He was beaten to death.... It took over a month to kill him but he's finally heading to the glue factory or McDonald's.

Yup I agree the city needs more workers and a sidewalk plow who won't plow it back onto our driveway

The issue may be ...not the number of equipment or workers but the need for direct control with a clear line to City Hall and equally clear line of control of these winter NEEDS within City Hall.

After listening to 2 hours, of the 4 hour city council meeting regarding snow removal, it made me question what we in Waltham need to do. There was too much dancing around questions, too few clear answers, my need for direct answers and accountably was not satisfied.
Now poised to vault forward with an improving economy around the corner we could continue in the path we have been trudging along in or, vault forward putting in place many of the policies that vibrant cities and towns have in place regarding their Public Works Department.
City employees (or contractors) not doing their jobs should be evaluated and if need be replaced, department heads included. PWD should be properly staffed with well maintained equipment all while providing services to its citizenry. The blizzard of 2013 made all who ventured out shortly after the storm into surrounding communities aware we in Waltham are not getting attainable services.

well if the mayor would stop cutting everything except for what she deems to be necessary purchases maybe some equipment could be purchased. They need new equipment in Fire, Police and PWD departments and she keeps playing games.Good luck to you all glad i am out of there.

We absolutley need more employees and new equipment. Enough of the Rentals and used vehicles. New trucks and cars are needed in all departments.

But she's building a roller skating rink at South Jr. ( Recreation Dept) that's where a lot of tax dollars are going. Joke

Waltham needs new snow-removal equipment. However, if new workers are added to the payroll because we supposedly need them when it snows, what will they do during the rest of the year?

WE need more employees year round. We can start with getting bette equipment. She keeps surplusing trucks instead of repairing them.

After the Blizzard this year I saw numerous sidewalk plows with one tail light and they were barely able to even plow because they were so slow. also the only time I saw them was at 11 o'clock at night trying to rush so they could have school the next day. why aren't they are out all day long? Maybe instead of 3 days of school off it would've only been two.
