Should Waltham Have Cancelled Schools Today?

Share your thoughts!

Despite 9.5 inches of snow falling on Waltham today, Waltham Public Schools remained open today.

Some residents have complained on social media that roads and sidewalks were not adequately plowed prior to school opening.

Do you agree with the decision to keep the schools open? Shar your thoughts in the comments section below.

I can't believe the Superintendant decided to have school today, my street wasn't even plowed and I kept my kids home and I'm glad I did.

They just didn't want to add on another snow day. They were planning on most students NOT being in today. They put the onus on the parents to keep kids home, so as not to have an extra day in June.

Was the decision to have school today a makeup call? Like when an ump makes a bad call and knows it?

I did not see the problem of school being open today. Even if they are getting out early they got almost the whole day. The streets were terrible but lets face it if we have to wait for the streets to get clean around Waltham to send the kids to school save your lunch they will never have school.

No one got hurt and we made it through the day. Everyone's been b****in about too many snow days, as if you can control weather. This was difficult to predict. Boston and Cambridge had school and they got slammed.

Ironically, the schools took the extra day in Feb because the sidewalks weren't clear. Today, walking to Fitzgerald (yes, we walk) the plows made the sidewalks 2-3 feet deep so we're all walking on the roads. But today it was okay?! That's confusing.

This winter I have seen dozens of articles about plowing, snowfall and cancellations. The commenters who will claim to be "HARDY NEW ENGLANDERS!" don't sound like it. Wah, Wah, Wah, It snowed, Wah, Wah, Wah, It's slippery. Wah, Wah, Wah, I had to shovel my car out, Wah, Wah, Wah, My hands are cold!

Take a moment and think of the people that live in the Midwest and get massive amounts of snow routinely, they still attend school and live their lives. It's embarrassing, be prepared, half these bozos yapping about "having to walk in the snow" probably don't own a decent pair of boots! It's New England it's time to man up or move to a warmer climate! Teach your child to be alert, and dress them properly, what would happen if they did have to walk a mile home, because of an emergency? People need to step up, not look for a city worker to clear a path for them every where they go.

P.S. Go shovel out your fire hydrant if you didn't do it already.
