Should Happy Hour Return to Waltham?
The state is considering bringing back "Happy Hour," to restaurants statewide.
Should Massachusetts bring back "happy hour?"
The state Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission is holding a hearing in Boston on Aug. 21—one of five across the state—to solicit public feedback on the idea, according to the Boston Herald.
The casino bill passed last year requires the ABCC to complete a study by Jan. 31 of whether the state happy hour law, which currently restricts daily or hourly discounts on alcoholic drinks, should be updated or amended.
In Waltham, restaurants that serve alcohol would still have to follow a local regulation which requires food be available to patrons, according to city regulations. Also, restaurants serving booze would be required to document that at least 51 percent of their revenue is coming from food, according to local regulations.
In addition to the happy hour idea, Waltham is considering issuing additional liquor licenses which could result in more pouring esablishments in Waltham.
