Market Basket, Others Confirmed as Waltham Polaroid Site Tenants
Construction on buildings at the complex may begin in 2013.
Several tenants have now been confirmed for the retail/office development at the former Polaroid site, according to an announcement from the mayor's office.
Market Basket, Bonefish Grille, TD Bank, Marshalls, Starbucks, and Jake & Joes (a sports bar and grill) have all been confirmed, according to an announcement from RMD Retail Management & Development, provided to Waltham Patch by the mayor's office.
The former Polaroid site is being developed into a large retail shopping complex.

Construction on the complex will start in late March or April 2013, pending work by NSTAR at the site remaining on schedule, according to the announcement. Developers expect phase one of the build out will partially open by the end of 2013.
Also, developers are seeking fashion and office tenants as well, according to the announcement.
The Starbucks and TD Bank could have drive-thru permits, which require City Council approval. Permit applications will be submitted soon, according to the announcement.
In September, the city also named 2Ovens as a possible tenant, but that company was not included in the new list of confirmed stores. Developers plan to announce more tenants in the future.

Meanwhile: how many business locations continue to be vacant or underutilized along both the Main Street and Moody Street corridors? The Rail Yard Site would be perfect for a Starbucks or similar chain, but all anyone seems to want is more suburban shopping plazas. Yay, cars.

Just what Waltham needs, another bank. Couldn't agree more with George's comment. Fill up Moody and Main and THEN bring more stores to town. Waltham needs less banks and more retail!

Sorry guys but no one wants to open on Moody or Main there isn't enough parking and not enough foot traffic. Look at the first two blocks of Moody st, its completely vacant.

Long term plan should include a bridge over 95/128 so that all the employees on Bear Hill will have easy access to this plaza. Options are limited in that area, and this would eliminate traffic concerns coming down onto Main St from the area.
New facilities will always be more attractive to businesses. Older buildings in downtown should consider new development (which is happening to an extent) to bring new residents and business to downtown.

When the project was owned by Related Companies there were all sorts of plans regarding traffic mitigation, rerouting 128/20/117 exit/entrances, etc. All those agreements were not carried forward with Sam Park et al. They are building by right and any discussion about traffic mitigation only needs to take place in phase 2 or 3.

What's wrong with a bank? I think another bar is a problem we have enough alcohol in this city ... but we need clothing stores bad ... and no a.j. Wrights please.... market basket would be great!!!! And please please we desperately need a Starbucks! Plus a bass pro shop would be sooooo awesome. Foxborough is way too far

There are 34 banks in waltham that I counted online today and at least 3 I know of that are being built or are slated to be built. Nothing wrong with banks, I just think 34 is excessive for a town the size of waltham. We need some more variety. We have banks, liquor stores and grocery stores everywhere!

Would love to see a Sears and a Burlington Coat Factory at the new development. We need a quality "everything-type" store. We have plenty of discount stores in the area... although, the addition of Marshalls is good, but no more. Looking forward to seeing it complete!
