'Say Hi' Campaign Kicks Off Today
A local organization is seeking to build community relations in Waltham.
Waltham-based REACH Beyond Domestic Violence will kick off its “Say Hi” campaign today by honoring three local residents for their contributions to the community.
On Tuesday, Feb. 5, REACH, which assists victims of domestic violence, will kick off its “Say Hi To Your Neighbors” campaign week which is intended to build community relations among neighbors, according to REACH. The event will be held at Back Pages Books at 289 Moody St. at 5:30 p.m.
REACH, during the event, will also honor four members of the Waltham community: In A Pickle owner Tim Burke, Brand New Watch blogger Jim Walker, Jim Preston and Dan Reedy.
Mayor Jeanette McCarthy has declared Feb. 9 – 16 as “Say Hi To Your Neighbors Week,” during which REACH hopes to have Waltham residents give at least 2,013 “hi” greetings to their neighbors.
Also, as part of the "Say Hi" campaign, a "Meet the Waltham Media" event will be held on Feb. 15 at Shopper's Cafe.

How dispiriting it is to see all the jingoistic, hostile comments regarding people regarded as "different" or "foreign." Yes, English is our main language, but it's amazing how many people are resistant to learning others' languages, even though it enhances one's education. The Latino population is growing significantly in this country, and it includes tax-paying and working people very loyal to the U.S. I'm so sick of this anti-Hispanic, anti-Latino sentiment. I don't believe in censorship, but I'd be happy to see all such comments deleted. And, by the by, there's no such place as "Guantamala."
