Ah the irony, Watertown gets a Walmart and Newton gets a Wegman's. The demographic perhaps...?

What is Wegman's and why should I care about it?

Wegmans is an extremely popular grocery store that is expanding into Massachusetts.

I love Wegmans fresh produce/fish and some other items. That said they are a bit pricey and I could only get certain items there. Even given that fact, I would not want to see Wegmans or any other big store in Watertown as I believe we are at max capacity for large stores(my opinion). I believe we need tax income which has less impact on traffic and crime. Possibly a high tech company(less cars/crime) as we are located so close to the coveted(high tech's and start ups) Cambridge. I would love to see the Town go after businesses of that character.

Wegmans is an absolutely fantastic supermarket. We lived in Western New York for a few years and shopped regularly at Wegmans. It's truly the one thing I missed when we moved back home to Boston. The service is amazing and the quality of their products is excellent. I can't wait until they open in Chestnut Hill, I'll be the first in line.

Kerrianne, I'll be fighting you for that spot ;-)
Could not possibly be more excited about this- Wegman's is AMAZING. And I have a feeling that there will be some improvements made to the traffic flow on Rt 9 that will make the entire corridor easier to navigate and more accessible.
Looking forward to hearing what the timeline is on the new addition to the Newton grocery store scene!

This is great news. A very much needed addition , which will bring greater choice, and competition.
For those who recall, I think it ironic, a few of years ago, a number of Aldermen, commented that the area did not need an additional supermarket, when Stop & Shop was looking to build on Needham St.
