The following letter is from State Rep. Thomas Stanley, D-Waltham to the Federal Aviation Administration regarding its proposal to alter air traffic routes that would bring additional aircraft noise to parts of Waltham.

Dear Ms. English, 

Hope all is well.  I am writing to you to express my concerns in regards to the Federal Aviation Administration’s plan to implement a new departure course from Runway 33L, within Boston Logan International Airport, scheduled for March 7. This new departure course could have a sizeable effect on the City of Waltham and the Town of Lincoln, which I represent, as part of the Ninth Middlesex District. 

The Federal Aviation Administration’s proposal to update the National Airspace System increases the amount of planes that will be flown over the City of Waltham and the Town of Lincoln. Per my review of the Federal Aviation Administration’s environmental assessment, I have remaining concerns with regard to the noise pollution as well as potential environmental impacts.

Therefore, I respectfully request that the environmental assessment as well as the noise pollution evaluation put forth by the Federal Aviation Administration be reassessed to comprehensively study the future impacts that this proposal will encompass.  Additionally, I would like to also request that the Federal Aviation Administration perform an independent study to concentrate on these specific concerns within the City of Waltham and the Town of Lincoln.

I would also appreciate any cooperation on behalf of the Federal Aviation Administration to extend the public commentary deadline of February 15^th. This extension would allow for more participation from the public to weigh in on any concerns with regard to this new proposed departure route.
