Just got home and my family and neighbors are all shocked to see how horrible the Main streets/roads are in Waltham. We traveled River, Newton, High, & Moody streets and they are TERRIBLE...Accidents waiting to happen. All neighboring cities have their Main roads cleared out. I am so dissapointed...wait until it freezes over tonight. Meanwhile, I saw three city trucks gathered at Dunkin Donuts chatting away! Typical of Waltham DPW

Clark St by Lowell field is still a mess with snow mounds 4' off of each curb. 2-3 inches never even plowed which is now compacted with no sand, no salt. Good thing the kids have no school tomorrow. The conditions are still very dangerous.

It's Bush's fault

Yesterday I saw a pick up truck get stuck on Hagar Street. Then an ambulance came to respond to a call, and the ambulance got stuck. Then the Waltham fire department sent a pick up truck down to pull out the ambulance, and it got stuck. It must have taken a half hour to get the ambulance released. This plowing job is unacceptable, and I expect some city officials to be held responsible. I am not big on the "they work for us" mentality, but there is no excuse for the last few days.

I forgot to mention that I had to bring someone to the emergency room at Newton Wellesley Hospital today, and the moment I crossed from High Street over the line into Newton, it was all black top. It was as if I had entered a world where there was no snowstorm. Just unacceptable. Perhaps it is time for some changes in our city.

Moody St. and Chestnut St. could use some serious work. I just called the town and they said that Moody St. was tricky because of all the cars lining it. Why the heck did they lift the parking ban then?

Just saw the first plow truck on my street since Saturday am. They made one pass down the middle, that's it. I understand what it's like for these guys as my husband plows as well but this is ridiculous.

Sterling Rd needs to be plowed. There is a large hill and my wife could not make it up the hill with her Camry. I assumed the plows would be out today to clean up the roads. They have not been back since 8AM on Saturday.

I forgot to mention the designated handicap parking spot on Sterling Rd got no extra attention. It's right on the hill we couldnt get over.

What would you complainers do if stuff really hit the fan. Big deal...streets were not plowed great. You could still get around. So needy in this state its ridiculous. Get tough New Englanders

The south has tornadoes and devastating floods where people lose their houses. We have a snow storm and people get crazy saying they want the director fired. That's just pure nonsense....get tough New England

to moe howard obviously you do not pay taxes, the streets are terrible. I pay taxes and expect services done when needed. also I just read Michael Chaisson's comments on the storm and he thinks they did an ok job. Where?? Maybe his street. He should be ashamed.

Kcm, I am a home owner in Waltham therefore I do pay taxes. Quit complaining and shovel your side walk. Chip in instead of whining

moe you are a bigger fool than I thought. I do shovel my sidewalks and part of the street because they don't know how to plow curb to curb. These people are getting paid it's their job.

Waltham roads are terrible! Burlington roads are great! Watertown are too! Looks like our tax dollars go to pay for the trucks to stay home all day saturday and looks like Sunday too! They Prob didn't have enough notice!-
Also the public school lots are terrible. We don't have supervisors to check on these lots!! Years ago plow drivers took better care cleaning. Looks like slobs are on the payroll!

Kcm...let go of the hate, you'll feel better. If your street not being plowed is the worst thing that happened to you today, I think your doing alright.

My street was plowed yesterday and sanded late this afternoon. Due to some melting, there is now at least four inches of muck on the streets causing cars to get stuck. Would it have hurt the plows to make at least one final pass before putting sand down? The width of the streets are pathetic and the City should be ashamed. I know we are not the only city to cancel schools for tomorrow, and I agree that for safety reasons children should be kept home, but what about those of us who have to travel these roads to work?

On another note, if the parking ban is lifted in the City how does the DPW expect to attempt to continue clearing the streets?? And will the municipal lots be cleared once the residents who park in these lots during storms move their cars? In the past, when I have attempted to utilize the lot at the corner of Church and Main Streets after a storm my car has gotten stuck due to the people who clear off their cars and leave the snow in the lot. If the City allows apartments to be built without proper parking shouldn't they be responsible to clear parking lots so those of us who pay taxes and put money in meters can park when visiting the downtown area?

What's wrong is that we have seen towns next to us doing a better job. Why?

Moe Howard: your name says it all. Obviously you work for the city or you're protecting someone you know. The despicable conditions of Waltham streets are nothing left than embarrassing. At 4:00 pm today Prospect St. and Crescent St. had vehicles spun out all over them -OVER 30 HOURS AFTER THE SNOW HAD STOPPED. What is the explanation for this?? Farnsworth St wasn't plowed AT ALL until 9:30 SATURDAY NIGHT. This means no ambulance or fire access to the homes on this street. Let's be honest, Waltham usually does a very good job in these situations. We need to demand to know who is responsible for this debacle.

I agree with RSG that what is most remarkable and despicable is that Waltham has usually done much much better. I was impressed that the plows were out all night during the storm, but hardly a plow to be seen today. I couldn't believe that even Crescent and Prospect and Moody were in bad shape. I agree that there should be better accountability here. Very disappointed with this current DPW

I agree that the streets are pretty awful. I don't think any street is plowed wide enough and I admit that this could have been handled better. But I know a plow driver (private contractor for the city) and he was in his plow for 36 hours straight during the storm. He told me quite a few of the plows that were supposed to be out broke down.

Could we have done a better job planning this? Yes. Let's just not blame the drivers. Problems like this start at the top, IMO.

I live in South Waltham and it is a mess. I have not seen any plows since Saturday morning. I went to Newton yesterday and the roads were nicely plowed. I just bought a house last summer in Waltham and hate to see the tax dollars going to waste.

I live on a side street in Lakeview and they did a good job. Thanks, plow drivers and city.

This is absolutely not a plow driver's issue - nor do I think you will hear anybody say that it is. If anything, I feel badly for the drivers because it really hasn't snowed in two years and many of these guys depend upon that income they receive when it snows. But to pull that many vehicles off the road because they broke down?? Come on, this is a safety issue and someone needs to be held accountable

Cherry St., Chestnut St., and Adams St. need to be plowed. They are sheets of icy mush at the moment, and very narrow and slippery.

4:55PM EST. Monday, 11.2.203 ~ Pine Hill Circle could use a plowing and a width increase due to plowing as of RIGHT NOW!! Sanding, salting, and drain clearing also could be added to the list ~ AGAIN .. Right NOW!! Oh BTW ~ we get to do this all over again THIS coming weekend: 15.2.2013 -18.2.2013 as another snow storm coming just like this one!!

If all the surrounding cities were able to clean their streets -but Waltham was not then common sense says Waltham is doing something wrong. This was also the case two years ago.
Ten years ago Waltham did a great job clearing the roads, what cuts have been made and who's calling the shots now? That's where the solution lies

This same issue happened in 2011. What did we do? We got rid of our DPW director, Got a new one and oh look WE ARE BACK TO THIS AGAIN! Its not the DPW who is the problem its the Mayor. Vote in a different mayor and watch how much better the DPW will be. Sidewalk Plows are broken down, a dump truck and A budget truck is carrying Water Dept equipment. This gets more and more rediculous year after year. Not one new DPW truck has been bought.
