Fish McBites: Just in Time for Lent

McDonald's reportedly is rolling out its first new Happy Meal in years to coincide with Lent.

Nugget-sized Filet-o-Fish.

That's the new idea McDonald's is rolling out this week just in time for Lent.

The fast food giant says the Fish McBites Happy Meal comes with seven nuggets of fried fish, French fries, apple slices and a drink.

According to USA Today, the rollout the the Fish McBites Happy Meal is the first of several new limited-time meal offerings.

Lent is marked by many Christians in the 40-day runup to Easter. This year, Lent starts next Wednesday, Feb. 13 and lasts until the end of March. Often considered a time to practice sacrifice, many Catholics for years gave up eating meat on Fridays.

According to the British newspaper The Daily Mail, McDonald's appears to be targeting more religious consumers with this new Happy Meal version of meatless dining.

How this could be considered "fish" is beyond me. They'd fry your soda if they could. Pandering to certain populations or certain occasions doesn't mask the fact that this cannot be considered good or nutritious food.

When did Ronald come out and say "Fish nuggets are nutritious", I don't think they are trying to mask anything, they post the nutrition facts on the drive up menu and give you a nutrition list if you ask for it. In America we all have the freedom to choose fish bites that are unhealthy or lettuce and carrots that are healthy. But that's a choice we make. It's a personal responsibility to be aware what we put in our bodies.

I refuse to patronize McDonald's. Their food is unhealthy, and the ambiance of their stores (I can't call them restaurants) is equally unappetizing. Many years ago, when I was living on Martha's Vineyard, I was part of the NoMac Committee, and we successfully prevented McDonald's from establishing an eatery on the Island. Our campaign gained national publicity, and McDonald's never tried again to invade our community!

So you dont eat there, like what they sell, or how their business looks... and because of that prevented others from making their own choices on where they want to eat and spend their money. Weird thing to be proud of.. keeping people from being able to make a choice all on their own.
