Drug Maker to Add Jobs in Waltham

AstraZeneca plans to add jobs to its existing office in Waltham.

 

AstraZeneca plans to add 80 jobs to its Waltham office over the next two years as part of its global restructuring plan, according to the Boston Globe. 

The jobs will be added to the drug maker's existing Waltham office to support other research centers, according to the newspaper. The hirings are part of a larger plan to elimiante 1,200 positions at the company's Delaware headquarters. 

The company said the goal of the move is to attract additional bioscience workers and simplify its operations, according to the Globe.

I read the Globe article, which stated that the 80 jobs being added at the Waltham site are ones that will be cut in Wilmington, Delaware. Hopefully, those people will be given the opportunity to transfer to Waltham before new workers are hired here to replace them.

Yes, it's good news when jobs are created in Waltham, but one really feels for the displaced workers.
