Don't Drive Through Crosswalks in Waltham, Or Else...
Waltham Police are increasing efforts to enforcement crosswalk laws and protect pedestrians.
Waltham Police are conducting crosswalk enforcement patrols this summer in the city, according to the Boston Globe.
Police plan to issue fines of up to $200 to morotists who don't stop for pedestrians in crosswalks, according to the Globe.
The patrols come after several recent accidents, some of which resulted in the death of pedestrians. A Waltham woman allegedly ran over and killed Scott Coxall in 2011 when Coxall tried to cross a street outside of a sidewalk.Also, Bentley University graduate student Qinpei (Vivian) Lin was killed in 2012 when a car struck her as she crossed a road outside of a crosswalk. Also, Waltham student Alex Cabrera was seriously injured in May 2012 when he tried to cross Lexington Street outside of a crosswalk.
Police tell the Globe patrols will increase in the next two weeks and continue throughout the year.
