Alleged Fake Marine Arrested In Waltham
Suspect was collecting Toys For Tots.
A 41-year-old Lowell man has been charged with faking being a member of the U.S. Marine Corps.
David LeBrun faces charges of possession of military property without authority, wearing a military uniform without authority, and false use of a veteran’s organization insignia, according to Middlesex County District Attorney spokesman Cara O’Brien. He was also charged on an outstanding warrant for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license (subsequent offense), she said.
LeBrun was arraigned at Waltham District Court on Monday, Dec. 6 and was ordered held on $500 cash bail and was scheduled for a Jan. 17 hearing, according to O'Brien.
WHDH-TV reported LeBrun was arrested on Saturday, Dec. 3 while he was on his way to Shopper’s Café for a Toys For Tots event, where LeBrun was supposed to pickup toys. They also reported LeBrun did not steal any of the toys and police are investigating whether he stole any cash donations.
Waltham Police Detective Sgt. Joseph Guigno said LeBrun was wearing the uniform while collecting items for the Toys For Tots program, but said LeBrun is officially associated with the program.
LeBrun was allegedly wearing an authentic U.S. Marine Corps uniform, but was not authorized to because he had been dishonorably discharged from the military, according to Guigno.
Guigno said LeBrun was also allegedly wearing medals he had not earned, including a purple heart medal, which is given to soldiers injured during combat.
“He is passing himself off as a staff sergeant and he is not,” Guigno said. “He was calling [the uniform] a costume.”

As a Marine looking at his photos, I have to say that he at least looked the part and that is due to his service in the past, just be proud of who you are and what you are no matter the rank or position. No excuse for doing this Marine, you know better.
