Brandeis Alum Loses First Fencing Event

Fencer Tim Morehouse is competing in the 2012 summer Olympics.

 

Tim Morehouse, a Brandeis alum competiting as fencer in the 2012 summer Olympics, lost his bid for the gold medal in the men's individual sabre event on Sunday, July 29.

Morehouse defeated Veniamin Reshetnikov, of Russia, 15-6 in the round of 32 match and then beat Dmitri Lapkes, of Belarus, 15-13 in a round of 16 match, according to the NBC Olympics results website. Morehouse, however, lost to Diego Occhiuzzi, of Italy, 15-9 in the top eight round.

"Thank you everyone! Top8 at the Olympics. Your support meant a lot," Morehouse tweeted during the competition. 

Morehouse comepetes again on Aug. 3 in the team sabre event.
