Body of Newton Man Found in Lake Cochituate

A Newton man with Framingham ties has been identified as the body that was found in Lake Cochituate Sunday morning.

UPDATED, 8 p.m. Sunday, May 1: The man whose body was found in Lake Cochituate in Natick at 11 a.m. Sunday is Todd Rooney, according to a friend of Rooney's family.

Rooney is a 35-year-old Newton resident who had been missing since April 20. State troopers and Newton Police spent all day Friday, April 29, searching  for Rooney, who was reportedly on foot with no cash or credit cards.

Rooney spent his younger years in Framingham.

Family friend Megan MacBey said state police came to the family's house to notify them Rooney had been found. The state medical examiner still needs to confirm with Rooney's dental records.

A spokesperson for the Middlesex District Attorney's office said the cause of death is pending. The death does not appear to be suspicious, according to the spokesperson.

that her brother called family and friends on April 20 and April 21, leaving good-bye voicemail messages.

A body was discovered in Lake Cochituate in Natick around 11 a.m. Sunday, according to the Middlesex District Attorney's office.

A spokesperson for the DA said the body's identification and cause of death are pending. The death does not appear to be suspicious, according to the district attorney's office.

Newton and State Police spent Friday searching Cochituate State Park for 35-year-old Newton resident  since April 20. The park is headquartered in Wayland, its entrance is in Natick, and it is also on the Framingham line.
