Shocker!

Why do things like this seem to happen in Waltham? First the construction at Lexington and Trapelo is halted by a sudden pull back by the developer and now this bizarre mistake in construction that possibly leave spaces empty for months and months at least. We need to have better oversight streamlining and facilitating new business construction.

Seriously??? Way to go, Waltham. As if there needs to be more empty storefronts. I can't imagine why anyone would want to open an eatery in Waltham.

By "mistakes in construction" you mean the city council found something to quibble about rather than an unsafe condition, correct?

Do the people who run this city hate money? Let's get these businesses open, paying taxes and employing people.

Its amazing a part time city councilor was able to identify mistakes in construction but our full time building inspectors did not ? Why do these "mistakes" not apply the the retail occupants currently doing business there? Any reason these "mistakes" cant be made public ?

How do we get someone elaborate further?

Is the council just being stupid and nitpicking over something like moving a door 20 feet? Or did the developers build in a completely different configuration than the plans? Or did the council not read the plans in the first place and now they're acting surprised?

At least one problem is the window on the Weston St. side of the building. The developer decided to go ahead with that design feature while the drive-thru was not yet permitted. Ultimately it did not pass. It was not on the original design. I think it was hubris on the part of the developers.

Am I right that there wouldn't be this level of scrutiny if the businesses weren't defined as fast food? That arbitrary distinction has got to go! It's costing the city tax dollars and jobs.

Ubelivebale!!!!! Yet again more feet dragging from our councilers. I would not be shocked at all if Five Guys, Chipolte & Panera back out and that will leave half the plaza vacant. WE NEED JOBS. I have been out of work for years ad was looking forward to working at a new buisiness but why would I think the council would change, ha, what was I thinking. The council can lie all they want that the building was not built right but we all know they are just dragging there feet. WELCOME TO WALTHAM!!

Shocker!!! Remember last week when Waltham was touted as being business friendly by the city council? I think this says something else. The coucil will again blame the layers for not doing things correctly, but they change the rules as they go along and make them jump through hoops to get their permits. Wake up councillors. I'll say it again WE elect YOU. Please listen to these comments above. They are your constituents and you should listen to them!

Hmmm. Someone should of thought of that BEFORE the first business opened.
This is ridiculous. If it's the extra window for the denied drive thru, it can be closed off quickly. To make the owners go to the additional expense of removing it is ridiculous.

Maybe councilor Logan will write an explanation on Patch. He seems to be willing to communicate with the public.

Why should the city council listen to you guys!! You are only there to fund their retirement and cushy pension and keep the unions happy. Keep working and paying taxes. Oh by way, the taxes need to be increased next year because they the collection fell short. Dont worry..its for "the crumbling schools".

Any updates on this? They have until today to decide on the Five Guys permit, at least.
