THANKS FOR A GREAT RACE AROUND THE RESERVOIR
On behalf of the Waltham Land Trust, I would like to congratulate the winners of the October 20thRace Around the Reservoir for Open Space. It took less than 30 minutes for Steve Ruare of Winchester to cross the finish line; Waltham’s own Molly Romano came in six minutes later. They received specially handcrafted coffee mugs emblazoned with 2012 and the Race around the Reservoir logo. Winners of the Marathon Sports Corporate Challenge, a team from Alkermes, Inc., also earned mugs plus the right to boast “Rulers of the Reservoir.” Top finishers in seven age groups chose from prizes which included an envelope containing $50 worth of scratch tickets (thanks Waltham Chamber of Commerce) and gift cards to Marathon Sports, the Elephant Walk, John Brewer’s Restaurant, Stadium Bar and Grill, and Watch City Brewery.
Race participants, including over 50 volunteers, enjoyed fruit from Russo’s, pizza from Bertucci’s, sandwiches from D’Angelos, and other snacks provided by Shaw’s, Stop & Shop, and Hannaford. Afterwards, all leftover food plus two huge boxes filled with pantry items and two bags of gently-worn running apparel donated by people attending the Race, were delivered to Bristol Lodge on Moody Street.
The Waltham Land Trust would like to thank the event’s major sponsors: Dassault Systemes, Spectra Energy, Massachusetts Medical Society, Marcus Partners, and Boston Properties. Totten Pond Service Station, Alkermes, Boston Sports Club, Watertown Savings Bank, Boston Biomedical Consultants, and the 128 Business Council also donated funds to offset costs of the Race. And many thanks to Ken Doucette for providing awesome music and clear sound before, during, and after the event. Couldn’t have done it without you, Ken!

Also many thanks to Conor Gavin for starting the Race off properly by singing the Star Spangled Banner!
