The Belmont Savings Bank Foundation announced today it is donating $5,500 to the Waltham Boys and Girls Club for the brand wrapping of two recently purchased vans that are being used daily to transport children from school to the club’s afterschool programs. Additionally, the Foundation has agreed to sponsor the club’s 2013 Gala Auction.
The vans are branded with a wrap that reflects the Club’s focus on teamwork, leadership, education and health. Approximate cost to wrap both vans is $3,000.
“The Belmont Savings Bank Foundation is proud to be partnering with the Waltham Boys and Girls Club, one of the touchstone organizations in our community,” said Robert Mahoney, an officer on the Belmont Savings Bank Foundation board, and President and CEO of Belmont Savings Bank. “With this donation, we are thrilled to be contributing to the club’s operations, which will include sponsoring the 2013 Gala Auction, traditionally the club’s single largest fundraiser.”
The 2012 Gala Auction raised $128,000, with the evening typically drawing over 200 people, primarily business owners and club alumnae. A silent auction and cocktail party begins the evening and the larger items are auctioned at the end of the event. Funds are raised by sponsorships, tickets purchased and an auction.
“We are grateful to be working with the Belmont Savings Bank Foundation on this important grant, which enables us to continue our services and offers a stronger quality of life to the children in our community,” said Scott McLellan, executive director for the Waltham Boys & Girls Club. “Our club offers a host of programs to a variety of people in Waltham, which is why working with community partners on initiatives like this is of the utmost importance.”
The Waltham Boys and Girls Club opened in 1938, and offers a variety of programs and classes at their location at 20 Exchange Street in Waltham. Daily program opportunities for youths of all abilities include sports, social recreation, health and life skills, aquatics, performing arts, cultural diversity, drug and alcohol prevention, character and leadership development, and education. Currently, 1,279 Waltham children, ages 6 to 18, use the facility each year.
